Warren W. Caldwell was born on December 28, 1925 in Davenport, Iowa. He received an associate's degree from San Mateo Junior College in 1945. He then attended Stanford University where he completed his bachelor's degree in 1949 and his master's degree in 1950. He went on to the University of Washington where he completed his Ph.D. in anthropology in 1956.
